Artist Statement

I returned to making art in 2008 after many years of just thinking about it. I'd been drawing figures since I was a child, copying from magazines etc, and later did life drawing. I attended Medway College of Art and Design, then did Dip AD Sculpture at Kingston Poly. I left there to get a taste of real life and a 'proper' job. Many years of unrelated work followed, along with various part time art courses. I studied for an Open University arts degree while bringing up two children, graduating in 2006.
After copying favourite paintings in oil and acrylic, I gained confidence in using paint. Drawing has always seemed natural to me, and I saw myself as a sketcher until recently, recording scenes on the spot. I am now beginning to use the sketches to make paintings, and learning to use a brush, sometimes combined with other media.
I became a member of the SE20 Art Group in 2012, and have been their co-ordinator since 2015.
