Artist Statement

I returned to making art in 2008 after many years of just thinking about it. I'd been drawing figures since I was a child, copying from magazines etc, and later doing life drawing. I attended Medway College of Art and Design for two years from 1969, then Dip AD Sculpture at Kingston Poly. I left there to get a taste of real life and a 'proper' job. Many years of mainly menial work followed, along with various other part time art courses.
After copying favourite paintings in oil and acrylic, I gained confidence in using paint. Drawing has always seemed natural to me, and I saw myself as a sketcher, until recently, recording scenes on the spot. I am now beginning to use the sketches to make paintings.
I became a member of the SE20 Art Group in 2012, and am now their co-ordinator. I also belong to South London Women Artists.
