Artist Statement

I returned to making art in 2008 after many years of just thinking about it. While at a pastels class at Kentwood, I got the opportunity to show some work at the Belleberry Deli in Clockhouse BR3, sadly now gone. It was perfect for new artists, and I sold some pictures, much to my surprise. I then gave pottery a go, and found that I loved the feel of clay, making bowls and vases, jugs and useful things, but also figures, which seemed to grow by themselves. I'd been drawing figures since I was a child, copying from magazines etc, and later doing life drawing, and this gave me a good grounding.
After copying favourite paintings in oil and acrylic, I gained confidence in using paint, but drawing has always seemed more natural to me, and I now see myself as a sketcher, using pen and watercolour to record scenes on the spot.
I became a member of the lovely SE20 Art Group in 2012, and for the last three years have been their co-ordinator.

Present and future exhibitions:

As a member of the South London Women Artists Group I am proud to be part of the Pillow Talk display at Tate Modern on the 23rd February 2018. Tate Late 6 till 10pm, commemorating 100 years since women got the vote.

The SE 20 Art Group is very lucky to be organising the Penge Festival Art Trail, coming up this year in June. Artists' houses and local studios will be open to the public for two weekends, and there will be art on display in the cafes and pubs of Penge. The festival is long established in this 'forgotten' corner of Bromley Borough, and it will be the fourth year of the Art Trail. We aim to show what a wonderful place SE20 it is to live and make art.
